About Bio-Synergy

Bio-Synergy is a UK company committed to providing the very best nutritional and sports supplements on the market.
As the name, which means “working with life”, suggests, Bio-Synergy is committed to providing your body with the tools it needs to live a full, busy and active life while feeling fantastic.
The company was formed ten years ago by Daniel Herman, who had grown tired of sports aids that simply didn’t deliver what they promised. In the firm belief that the technology to create high-quality and easy-to-use nutritional supplements existed, he set about finding quality suppliers who could develop products which he knew, through research, would really give results.
“At the time, I was going to the gym five times a week and, with my programme, should have been getting much bigger gains than I was”, he says. “The supplements I was taking didn’t seem to be helping me. I felt they weren’t as good as I was lead to believe by their marketing and the claims on the packaging.”
When Daniel started to develop his own lines, he discovered why he wasn’t reaping the rewards of his hard work. “I realized, when I was sourcing the ingredients for my creatine, that there are different standards of creatine, as there are proteins and so on. It was then I saw how some companies would use clever language to make something sound more impressive and thereby mislead consumers.”
At the launch of his business, Daniel made a vow to use only the best quality ingredients in all Bio-Synergy products and ensure that information supplied to customers was honest, open and easy to understand. They would also avoid making incredible claims - Bio-Synergy would work on results alone.
As a result, Bio-Synergy is the most respected company of its kind amongst professional and amateur athletes, parents and people who want to feel the best they can. Despite not paying professional athletes to use their range, Bio-Synergy has worked with top sporting stars on bespoke programmes, like David Coulthard and Sally Gunnell.
While it started by making sports supplements that were popular with trainers and coaches, Bio-synergy was determined not to pigeon-hole itself as a “body-builders” brand. Determined that everyone should have access to great products, the company focused on complete lifestyle.
In fact, Daniel realised that it was those who perhaps weren’t regular gym goers who could benefit most from his products. “I think ultimately it’s people who aren’t training who will benefit the most as, if you are exercising regularly, the odds are you are a bit healthier and more aware of your diet than someone who isn’t,” explains Daniel. “Recent studies show young people in Britain are experiencing health problems, because they have a chronic lack of vitamins in their diet, caused mainly by their diet and lifestyles."
And it’s the company's desire to make sure that people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and sizes are catered for and provided with tools to help them get the most out of life. It’s this ethos which lead to the development of the children’s range. Long before Jamie Oliver had lifted the lid on school dinners, Bio-Synergy was in the lab formulating products which would help kids perform better at school and play.
“My girlfriend is a school teacher and fanatical about nutrition; and having seen what her pupils were eating, she was horrified at some of their packed lunches,” confesses Daniel. “It made me think back to my own childhood filled with giant cookies and toffee bars. I decided there was a need for kids to have options which were both healthy and fun. To allow parents to give their children something they would like to eat and feel comfortable holding in the playground.
In 2004, we approached Marvel about producing a range of Vitamins and Omegas 3 supplements, Smoothies and Fruit Bars based around their Superhero characters. We were the first company in Europe to use a licence in a positive way to sell products which would benefit kids, rather than use it for junk foods.
Then we were approached by Warner Bros to do something with Superman and we developed the world's first Effervescent Multi-vitamin tablets for kids, as it gave them another option for taking it. We were offered the Simpsons licence and decided we had the Superheroes, so if we could get the world’s most famous family, The Simpsons, healthy, there would be hope for all of us! Hence The Simpsons’ Vitamin C Mouth Strips came about.”
The work on the children’s lines, like other Bio-Synergy products, is on-going. And the company’s popularity is ever-growing.
As the leading UK’s sports energy manufacturer, they have helped a number of athletes to achieve their professional goals. Bio-Synergy achieved further recognition within the industry with the appointment of Lord Sebastian Coe as Chairman this year.
“We learned a lot through our involvement with sports experts,” says Daniel. “After working with the Scottish Premier League, the chief nutritionist there moved to the Commonwealth Games and they decided they wanted to use us. Even though they were being sponsored by another sports drink company, they didn’t think it was good enough for the athletes, so they provided a formula which they wanted as the drink and we Made it Happen. Now customers can buy that drink, from our range, called Liquid Energy.”
But it’s not just athletes who are reaping the benefits of Bio-Synergy’s combination of technology and great taste. Performers are also discovering how great nutrition and energy packed supplements can ensure they put in a brilliant performance night-after-night, or look perfect in their latest blockbuster.
“We supplied all the drinks to Live 8, which was fun,” remembers Daniel. “Madonna has used our Creatine, Robbie Williams told me he found the Protein Bars helpful, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Day-Lewis have used a variety of products through a trainer who prefers us, and Brad Pitt called from Malta once to tell me he loved the products. All the boys from Blue found them useful for keeping their energy levels up and getting in shape.”
So what makes performers choose Bio-Synergy over other energy boosting, fitness enabling and fat burning products?
“I think that the fact we care, that the products all taste great as well as work efficiently, is important. And the fact that performers use it goes to further show our products are not just for sports people - they are for everyone who wants to get that little bit more out of life,” says Daniel.
So, well established and respected in their field, Bio-Synergy has gone on to supply key retailers in the UK under their own brand names. These include Tesco, Waitrose, Sainbury’s, Boots, Asda, Morrisons, Superdrug and Unichem, amongst others. They have also teamed up with Nike, Reebok and New Balance.
And Bio-Synergy is proud to support a number of charities. “We tend to work with cancer and children’s charities, because I have experienced, through my friends and family, people close to me dying from cancer. And we support children because they seem to be the most helpless,” explains Daniel.
As for future goals? It’s more of the same - development, research, and innovation - for the company who strives to be the best, so they can provide the best to their customers.
